Who doesn’t like to celebrate birthdays with their grandchildren? There is nothing better than seeing the excitement on their little faces when they realize the day is all about them and the party is in their honor.
It is baseball season and no better time to show you the celebration we had for my grandson’s first birthday. Even though his birthday falls in December, the theme had to be a family favorite team – the
Chicago Cubs!
As always. my daughter has wonderful ideas for the children’s parties and of course, this first birthday party was no exception.
Let’s travel back to that day and join the Cubs birthday party.
Please don’t hold the quality of the photos against me. Many, if not all, were taken with our camera phones, but it was such a fun party I just had to share it.
We started decorating the day before. What fun we had hanging the banner my sister had created out of scrapbook paper and vinyl letters.
We hung the paper baseball lanterns from the light fixture in the entrance. Don’t you know that was a real job! We laughed as we fought with a broom handle attached to the string, as we stood on a ladder trying to loop it over the branches of the light fixture. But HURRAY we finally accomplished the task!
We added smaller lanterns to the light fixtures above the tables. A much easier job!
“Cubs” pennants were tucked in the garlands on the fixtures as well.
Remember, this party was in December, so we left the Christmas decorations up and simply accented them with the “Cubs” décor.
Of course, a Cubs birthday party has to have a concession stand.
We offered popcorn, soft pretzels, hotdogs and cracker jacks, among other ball park favorites.
The cake was decorated with the Wrigley Field theme, by a special aunt. You can find the Bubble Guppies cake she created HERE.
There was even a small cake for the birthday boy to enjoy all by himself.
To add to the fun of the day, we were all asked to dress in our favorite team apparel.
All the kids attending received a parting gift of a bat and ball.
This party was a HIT and a HOMERUN with everyone! (I just couldn’t resist.)
Thanks for sharing this special day as we celebrated a 1st birthday with a Cubs birthday party!
Any more details on the birthday banners that your sister made? Plastic bats as well? Thanks
Thanks for asking about the banner and the bats.
The bats were found at the dollar store. We then purchased the tags used on the bats for Etsy. They were personalized with my Grandsons name through the Etsy store.
The banners were created out of cardstock and scrapbook paper with the baseball pattern. The baseball patterned paper was glued on to the cardstock. The vinyl letter was then centered on each card. I believe the vinyl letters were purchased at the same store as the scrapbook paper which was either Hobby Lobby or Joan Fabrics. We then hole punched a hole on the right and left top side of each the card and wove the ribbon through the holes.
Hope this helps to answer your questions. Let me know if I can answer any others.
