DIY Trick or Treat Banner in Black and White
Not long ago I took a peek at the Pier 1 décor Ideas for Halloween and found this cute banner!
Keeping up with my black and white theme I have been using this year, I wanted to change it up a little and create a banner in black and white.
And the great thing about my Trick or Treat Banner …… everything I used were things I already had on hand!
DIY Black and White Trick or Treat Banner
I began by cutting a piece of burlap into pennant shapes using a pattern I fashioned out of a sheet of 8 ½ X 11 inch paper.
I like the frayed edge look of the burlap, but to keep the pennants from fraying too much, I ran a basting stitch around the edges with my sewing machine.
A polka dot pattern was begun by using a sponge dipped into white acrylic paint and randomly “dotted” onto the pennants.
Keeping my with my endeavor to use only things I already had, I searched for something to use to make two additional sizes of “dots”. Now don’t laugh ….this is what up I came up with. A pencil and …. a piece of dog food! Yep … you just have to get creative and use what you have!
This piece of dog food dipped in paint worked perfectly to create the black dots.
And the silver dots with the eraser added just the right touch.
After the dots had been added to each pennant, I allowed them to dry a bit and then added individual letters by stenciling each letter on to a pennant with black acrylic paint, spelling out Trick or Treat.
For the “OR”, I placed both letters on the same pennant.
The top of each pennant was folded over a piece of cording and machine stitched loosely to allow the pennants to be adjusted after sewing.
To add a bit of interest to the Trick or Treat Banner, scrap pieces of black felt were tied on to the cording between each pennant.
And …. our Trick or Treat Banner is complete! I loved the way it turned out.
