No doubt about it – this is the time of year our family starts craving my Family Favorite Chili.
With the weather turning cold and the ball games on TV, there is nothing better than warming up with a big bowl of chili.
This has long been one of the favorite chili recipes in our family and today I am sharing it with you for our “Friday Food Favorite”. This is truly a terrific, simply delicious recipe.
Family Favorite Chili
Ingredients you will need:
2 lbs of ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
1 (5 ounce can) diced green chiles
1 stalk of celery, diced
3 medium tomatoes, chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans of tomato sauce
2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans – with liquid, for variety I use dark and light
2 (15 ounce) cans pinto beans
2-3 teaspoons cumin powder
2 tablespoons chili powder
1½ teaspoons black pepper
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups water
Begin by browning the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. After browning, drain off the fat.
In large pot or crock pot, combine the remaining ingredients. Add the drained beef.
Bring the chili to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 – 3 hours. (4-5 hours in a crock pot)
Now sit back, snuggle up in front of the fire, and enjoy a nice bowl of warm chili!
I like mine topped with a bit of sour cream and shredded cheese!
