I found this cute little crate at my favorite thrift store. I wasn’t a fan of the chicken motif and it was a bit beat up. The size was great and I knew it could be transformed into something perfect.
How to quickly transform your thrift store find with paint!
I began by painting the whole crate black using Folk Art Home Decor Chalk paint from JoAnn Fabrics.
Once the paint was dry the I painted over the black using the same type of chalk paint in “Savannah”.
A light coat of watered down Folk Art “Milky White”Milk Paint from Hobby Lobby is painted over the first two coats to give it a lighter look.
Several coats are added. Wiping them down after each addition gave the crate dimension.
To give the thrift store find a distressed look the sides and edges are lightly sanded.
And a light coat of clear wax is applied.
A Christmas ago I purchased these great little milk bottles in the $3.00 aisle at Target. They fit perfectly into the crate.
A strip of burlap can be added around a few of them give them a bit of pizzazz.
A few stems of “faux” herbs are tucked into the bottles.
I love this lavender from Hobby Lobby … I use it all of the time.
This thrift store find turned out just the way I had hoped it would!
